Birmingham may spend an additional $6.45M on downtown baseball stadium

The Birmingham City Council is scheduled to vote today on an additional $6.45 million in spending for the city?s downtown baseball stadium.

According to al.com, the amount is more than double that originally proposed by Mayor William Bell for furniture, an ice cream shop and a beer garden at the ballpark.

The new amount encompasses the original $3 million proposed by Bell, along with $1 million for parking, $2.05 million in neighborhood projects and $400,000 to design a companion Negro League museum.
