What Podcasters Can Learn From Internet Musicans | ProPodder.com

So you want to be in indie artist, eh? You?ve got a little help now from indie artist and podcast host, Brian Hartzog, an indie artist who has produced and released multiple CDs on the internet and worked for years in the computer industry.

The Internet Musician Podcast made its official debut this January by launching three nearly one-hour podcast episodes. Hartzog says the first few episodes are jam-packed with internet music marketing advice designed to help indie artists and songwriters figure out exactly how to effectively market their original music on the internet.

Podcasters, you can take note of many of the methods Hartzog is talking about and stylize them to suit your needs.

This may be oversimplifying the concept, but look at it this way: on the one hand you have a musician creating audio and distributing it on the web. That can only happen if people learn about it and find them. You, on the other hand, are creating audio and distributing it on the web ? and that can only happen if people learn about it and find you.

?The show is designed to meet musicians where they are,? says Hartzog. ?No prior technical experience is necessary? and even experiend musicians will benefit from the internet music marketing topics we cover.?

I went and took a look at his show notes for the first three shows. Episode one introduces the show and then gets right into the basics of determining your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) and then walks you through a number of ways to come up with one.

Episode two lists over 20 tools that the burgeoning indie artist can use ? many of which you can use for your podcast.

Episode three gets into the philosophy and models of the indie artist. There?s a lot of good stuff here.

Hartzog says the podcast and accompanying website will create a community of artists who work to create music careers on their own terms, ignoring the traditional music industry as they strive to do-it-themselves.

Hartzog shares DIY music promotion tips, resources and tutorials on The Internet Musician podcast. In addition to online music marketing tips, Brian will candidly share personal stories of his music business successes, as well as the setbacks, in his quest to sell more of his funk and roll music online without touring.

If you want to be the best, you?ve got to learn from the best.
