THE 26th ANNUAL ARIA AWARDS
TO BE HELD ON
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29
AT THE SYDNEY ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE
The music industry?s pinnacle event and celebration of Australian artists, the Annual ARIA Awards, are confirmed to take place on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Following on from the success of last years telecast, the 26th Annual ARIA Awards will return to the Nine Networks? digital channel GO! for the broadcast of the ceremony and all the red carpet action.
2012 has been a huge year for Australian music ? with Aussie artists spending a combined total of 16 weeks at the top of the ARIA singles Chart and 15 weeks on the ARIA Album Chart. With so many Australian artists with so much to celebrate, this years awards are set to be one of the biggest yet with exciting guest appearances and performances to be announced shortly.
The 2012 ARIA nominees will be revealed on Wednesday October 3 at the Art Gallery of NSW. This years ARIA Awards also see some exciting new developments aimed at further enhancing
this annual celebration of the Australian music industry.
In a new initiative for 2012, ARIA and the NSW Government through Destination NSW are pleased to announce the formation of ARIA WEEK. A week long celebration of the local music industry prior to the main event, ARIA WEEK features a series of showcases and live performances at venues around Sydney, as well as workshops, forums and discussions on a range of industry issues. Stay tuned as ARIA releases the full ARIA WEEK schedule in the coming weeks.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, said ?The NSW Government, through Destination NSW, is proud to support the ARIA Awards, a key creative industries event on the NSW Events Calendar. Sydney is the home of the Australian Music Industry so it is fitting that our harbour city hosts the 26th Annual ARIA Awards in November. I look forward to the inaugural ARIA WEEK, a welcome initiative for the Australian music industry that will further cement the importance of Sydney?s exciting live music scene and showcase our exceptional local talent to audiences from across the nation.?
In further news, the 2012 ARIA Awards will allow Australian music fans to have their say in who takes home an ARIA Award, with four publicly voted awards, including ?Single Of The Year?, ?Best Video?, ?Best Australian Live Act? and ?Best International Artist?.
Also included in the awards show again this year, will be the Hall of Fame induction, which will see one of Australia?s finest acts recognised for their outstanding contribution to the industry.
Finally, in a further change to the award categories, the ?Breakthrough Artist Single? and ?Breakthrough Artist Album? have been reclassified into a ?Breakthrough Artist Release? award in 2012.
For an artist to be eligible for a 2012 ARIA Award, they must have released their recording within the eligibility period, which extends from Friday, 19 August 2011 to Thursday, 23 August 2012.
