Live music everywhere
If I overheard people complaining that there is no place to see live music in The 570, I would tell them to get their heads out of the soil and check out some of this week?s offerings, whether it be on the big stage or in the corner bar. Music is out there. Go and get it.
?You can check out Len Mooney and the Free Music Orchestra continuing their Thursday night residency at Sarah Street Grill in Stroudsburg. It isn?t very far away and Sarah Street offers a welcoming vibe for both listener and performer, making it the go-to destination for artists seeking original music friendly rooms in the Poconos.
?If big classic rock shows is your bag, then you won?t know what to do with yourself on Friday night. 38 Special will shovel out hit after hit at The Mt. Laurel Pocono Mountains Performing Arts Center. The show will be their last of the 2012 season, which delivered Robert Cray, Ziggy Marley, Lyle Lovett and many more. The Doobie Brothers and Chicago will be at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain as well. For those looking to keep the classic rock sounds spinning into the wee hours of the summer night, The Tom Petty Appreciation Band will make their return to Mert?s in Scranton. ?Breakdown? and turn your Friday night volume up to 11.
?Kids On Bikes and Blinded Passenger will play their last show of the summer at The Keys in Scranton on Saturday. Both bands offer pumped up rock ?n? roll and tight musicianship, while The Keys offers a cool listening environment and plenty of unique people to rub elbows with. If you?re looking to say ?hello? to an ?old friend? (pun intended) Tom Moran from River Street Jazz Caf? in Plains is celebrating another birthday the only way he knows how; with the best live freaking music. Cheers Mr. Moran, for making The 570 a stop on many touring artists? tour itinerary, and for nurturing local artists and music lovers as if they were close family. You?re a good dude.
?If you?re looking for a little escape for your Sunday Funday, The Providence Speakeasy at The Olde Brick Theatre is hosting a party with a Prohibition-era theme featuring swinging live jazz by the Mark Montella Band with several special guest singers performing jazz standards throughout the night. The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m and prizes will be awarded for jazziest flask, most festive fascinator/hat, and in yet- to-be-determined categories such as ?vintage vixen.? Visit www.SubverseAphrodesia.com for details.
?It?s Monday and Mondays don?t always have to suck. Call off work and watch The Band?s The Last Waltz directed by Martin Scorsese and try to figure out why the late Levon Helm hated it so much. Live music at Heil?s Place in Scranton is always a safe bet for Monday night.
?Tuesday is The Uproar Music Festival and Shinedown, Godsmack and Staind at the Toyota Pavilion. They?re waiting for you.
?Maybe it?s time for you to make your own music on Wednesday. Open Mic nights are the perfect place for you to try out that new song or get over your stage fright. The River Street Jazz Cafe and Irish Wolf Pub set the stage for you to strut your stuff.
