Wild West Christmas at Berks Historical Society

Buffalo Bill's Wild West Christmas, Brian Belge's one-man show, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Historical Society of Berks County, 940 Centre Ave.

The show, and tours of the society's museum, are free and open to the public.

Belge brings the Old West to life through his interpretation of the famous cowboy showman. He invites audience participation.

Light refreshments will be served.

? C.H. Briggs Co., one of the largest independently owned distributors of interior and specialty building projects in the country, recently donated about $60,000 in kitchen sinks, cabinet knobs and pulls to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Reading.

The ReStore shared the donation with other ReStores in the Lehigh Valley, and Lancaster, Bucks and Chester counties.

? The Antietam Valley Community Partnership distributed more than 100 gifts to students at Mount Penn, St. Catharine of Siena and Jacksonwald elementary schools Wednesday.

The gifts were collected at the Antietam Valley Holiday Reception and Tree Lighting Celebration in Carsonia Park Dec. 7.

? Hawk Mountain Sanctuary received a $1,000 donation last month from Metro Bank to support educational programming.

Jerry Regan, president of the 2,600-acre preserve overlooking the Kittatinny Ridge, said the donation will allow sanctuary staff to hold programs at schools.

He said the sanctuary works with about 9,000 schoolchildren.

? UGI Utilities raised a total of $6,560 during its "virtual turkey drive" on its Facebook page during November.

The power company divided the proceeds between five food banks in the region, including $1,312 recently donated to the Greater Berks Food Bank.

UGI agreed to donate $25, the financial equivalent of one turkey, for every five new "likes" on its Facebook page.

? Reading Choral Society donated holiday poinsettias to two area groups in December as part of their community outreach program.

The poinsettias were given to Berks Heim and Reading DOVE Christian Ministry Center.

Choral society board members gave 22 pink and white poinsettias to Berks Heim in Bern Township and nine to DOVE on Centre Avenue.

Reading Choral Society is in its 137th season.
