We are a board game loving family.? Darren and I began playing and collecting games long before Raileigh was born.? Many of our "date nights" consisted of finding new board games and trying them out.

Now that we have a daughter of our own, we've passed the love of board games on to her.? On a daily basis, she requests to play on of her many favorite games.? One of our recent favorite games is Morphology Jr.

?Morphology Jr. is a creative game that our entire family can enjoy together.? This is a new game, just introduced in 2012.? It is a children's version of the amazing game Morphology.

In this game, players use their imagination and know-how to create words out of pieces like wooden sticks, glass beads, colored cubes, wooden people and string.? This person, the "morphologist", has 50 total pieces at their disposal.? Throw in twists like making noises or becoming a piece used to create a word, and you'll have a fun-filled game that will keep you on your toes.

In Morphology Jr., there are two sets of words to choose from-- easy or hard.? Since Raileigh is younger, we generally tend to choose the easy deck.

The game follows four basic steps--

1. Pick
2. Create
3. Animate
4. Guess

Morphology Jr. is meant for players ages 8 and up, and to be played in teams.? However, since Raileigh isn't quite 8 years old, we often bend the rules a bit.? Instead of playing against each other in teams, we kind of take turns being the morphologist and play cooperatively.

That's the beauty of the game, though.? We are still able to engage in a fun, creative game night together even though we kind of just play it our way!? When our extended family visits this holiday season, though, I suspect we'll let everyone join in and follow the rules a bit more closely.

Morphology Jr. is a fantastic addition to our family game night repitoire.? It makes me smile each and every time this is the game that Raileigh chooses for us to play.
